This won’t be the last time we hear about this site legal case from 2009 if the answer to Jack Thorne‘s fresh inspired-by-a-true-story Netflix drama Toxic Town is half since energised as the common reaction to the same year’s Mr Bates vs. the Post Office. The four-part series explores the true history of a group of moms in the Northamptonshire city who had babies born with different upper and lower limbs as a result of toxic waste being released by Corby Borough Council’s careless management of restored wasteland.
Toxic Town has a strong cast that includes players from Doctor Who, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Sexual Education, Trainspotting, and many more, as well as an essential history. Find out who the figures are playing below in detail.
Susan McIntyre as Jodie Whittaker
Connor McIntyre was born with an upper arm change as a result of poisons from dangerous brownfield sites entering Susan’’s program during gestation. Susan McIntyre is a real Corby citizen. In 2009, she and lawyer Des Collins brought Corby Borough Council to justice along with 18 other women who had children who had been harmed by the toxins.
She’, who was played by former Doctor Who actor Jodie Whittaker, who flew the TARDIS between 2017 and 2022 ( and continues to voice the 13th Doctor in audio stories ), and who in 2023 gave a renowned performance in the second series of Jimmy McGovern’, Time, a prison-set drama. In the murder crisis Frauds, Whittaker and Suranne Jones will soon be seen together.
Aimee Lou Wood portrays Tracey Taylor
Another true Corby native, Tracey Taylor, had a significant impact on her family when dust from the recovered steelworks site contaminated the home. Matthew Durkan portrays her father Mark.
Aimee Lou Wood, who first appeared in Netflix’s young comedy-drama Sexual Education and co-starred Ncuti Gatwa and Emma Mackey, plays Tracey in the role. She has since been booked and active. Wood is now appearing in season three of the hottest show on HBO’, The White Lotus opposite Walton Goggins, and has previously starred with Bill Nighy in the feature film Living. He also recently starred in a second set of BBC funny Daddy Issues with David Morrissey.
Des Collins, Rory Kinnear
The actual lawyer, along with 18 of the moms whose births were impacted by the toxins, is Des Collins, who filed the neglect state against Corby Borough Council. He and his company also represent victims of train accidents from the Southall and Paddington road accidents, as the play mentions.
He’, a much-loved British actor ( and, incidentally, the son of another well-loved actor: Roy Kinnear ), was recently seen in the role of Dave in Bank of Dave”, Fishwick in Netflix’, the first movie. He has appeared in numerous Bond movies, portrayed John Clare in the movie City of Angels, and most recently, has appeared in The Diplomat and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Brendan Coyle portrays Roy Thomas
As it says in Toxic Town‘s final funds, “, …, on a number of people, none of whom lived to see their ideas for Corby fully realized, the Labour deputy president and therefore head Roy Thomas is a fictionalized character. ”,
He is played by Brendan Coyle, who is well known for his roles as the Earl of Grantham and Mr. Bates in the Downton Abbey TV series and feature film spin-offs. He acted in a number of TV dramas, including the literary adaptation North and South to Dangerfield and the BBC crime drama Requiem and the film Mary Queen of Scots, and before that he acted Robert in the film Lark Rise to Candleford.
Robert Carlyle portrays Sam Hagen
Sam Hagen, a real Corby Borough Councillor, raised concerns about corner-cutting during the reclamation of the steelworks. His memorial is the subject of toxic town.
He’, who was played by Scottish actor Robert Carlyle, who rose to fame in the 1990s after appearing on television in the likes of Jimmy McGovern, Cracker, and the BBC, Hamish Macbeth, and Trainspotting and The Full Monty, before taking the lead in the TV sequel to The Full Monty ‘ and taking the lead in the lead role in the political thriller COBRA.
Joe Dempsie portrays Derek Mahon
Derek Mahon, who actually worked for the company at the time the groundworks were being done at the former steelworks reclamation site, was an actual employee. He and his wife Maggie Mahon ( played by Bridgerton and Line of Duty ‘, s Claudia Jessie ) had a child that was impacted by the toxins that were released as a result. He’, who is played by Joe Dempsie, a well-known actor whose career began with the Channel 4 teen drama Skins and later gained roles in Game of Thrones, Adult Material, Showtrial, and numerous other acclaimed dramas. He will soon appear in the Crime TV series Get Millie Black on Channel 4.
Karla Crome portraying Pattie Walker
Karla Crome, the playwright, plays Pattie Walker, a character whose child was born with limb differences as a result of the toxins. In addition to the BBC comedy-drama Am I Being Unreasonable, Crome’s biggest previous roles include Misfits, Under the Dome, and Carnival Row.
