Before the internet, before the films, even before the rename of Punishment of the Jedi was changed to Return of the Jedi, it might be hard to imagine. There was a time when Star Wars was a relatively new phenomenon. And at the time, an 11-year-old child was one of the movie’s biggest supporters.

There may not be an answer, but there was a time before the net, before the movies, perhaps before Revenge of the Jedi was given the new name Return of the Jedi. There was a time when Star Wars was a relatively new phenomenon. And finally, one of the franchise’s biggest supporters, age 11, named Rusty Miller, made the decision to write the initial Star Wars exam guide and made it happen.
Matt ( née Rusty ) explained in a 2020 interview with Skywalking Through Neverland that” the inspiration for this book about the works of J. R. Tolkien, of which I was also a big fan, came from watching a trivia book about the works of J. R. Tolkien.” And since there wasn’t a Star Wars trivia book, I spent the summer of 1981 coming up with around 600 questions. My kids sent a text to Del Rey, who then sent it to Lucasfilm after finishing the book.
Unsurprisingly, the book almost didn’t occur in 1982’s more innocent settings ( at least in terms of band-building ). When George Lucas himself learned about the job and saved it from being cancelled, Lucasfilm saw much reason to submit the work of tweenage fans. The Jedi Master’s Quizbook debuted on the New York Times bestseller record soon after, and, in the opinion of its creator, sold more than a million copies.
The only place I can buy my own version of the Jedi Master’, Quizbook in 2025 is the thrift shop, your favorite second-hand virtual book business, or your neighborhood Friends of the Library, which is exactly how I found my own version. The dog-eared print has a lot of fanfare and once belonged to a person whose name was repeatedly scrawled on the sites.
