Warning: contains trailers for Doctor Who set 15 show 3 “The Well”.

The first time the Doctor survived the malicious object on Planet Midnight, he was n’t able to accurately show Donna Noble what it was, or whether it was still intact. Thousands of centuries later, after his second meeting with the mysterious force in new show “The Well”, the Doctor told Belinda unequivocally that it had gone and that they were healthy.

Well, the Doctor lies, but apparently here, he just was n’t paying enough attention to know that he was bad. One tiny, very-easy-to-miss detail in “The Well ” reveals a secret about the “Midnight ” monster ( listed as “It Has No Name” as played by Who creature actor Paul Kasey on IMDb), namely: there’s more than one of them.

cnx. command. push(function( ) {cnx({playerId:” 106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530″ ,}). render ( “0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796” ); });

We know that the thing attaches itself parasitically to a network, and when that number is killed, it jumps to the predator. That’s how colony base cook Aliss ( Rose Ayling-Ellis ) ended up with the entity permanently behind her back, after she murdered her infected best friend in self-defence. The Doctor’s mercury-reflection plan got the monster off Aliss ’ back without killing her, after which point we understood that it chased the gang and attached itself to Belinda, who could hear its malevolent whispers at her ear.

Troop leader Shayla ( Caoilfhionn Dunne ) heroically volunteered to ‘kill ’ Belinda with a tricky shot through the heart that, if carried out with enough precision, would prove non-fatal, and thereby attract the creature to attach itself to her. The plan worked and Shayla sacrificed herself by jumping with the demon into the miles-deep me wheel, killing them both. Job done?

Half. Just before Belinda’s disease was discovered, a small detail suggests that one of the animals had previously escaped. Look at the lift section when Aliss and Troopers Seven and Nine are in ready to get transported to health. Shayla ordered two soldiers to visit Aliss, meaning there are only three individuals in the pull, but the screen counts four.

Is one of those Soldiers infected with an unseen thing that the elevate weight system is able to find? ( Aliss can’t become infected because the Soldiers are standing directly behind her, which would make them vulnerable to attack. ) Are they able to learn its whispers because of their hi-tech place helmets, just as Aliss being blind made her unable to discover it on the colony base?

In the episode’s closing scene, after Trooper Mo ( Bethany Antonia ) has been debriefed by Mrs Flood disguised as a space mining corp leader, Mo’ s partner appears to see a display of something identical behind her again, just like Belinda saw behind Aliss. That suggests at least one thing left Planet 6-7-6-7 after Shayla’s devotion. If one now went off in the lift riffing on a Trooper, then it could already be two out there.

Unless, you know, the lift screen reading is just a generation mistake caused by brain freeze due to the extreme cold of the episode’s Welsh quarry night shoot, but certainly that would have been fixed in post by then? If there was a thing in that pull, let’ s hope that Aliss really did get home safely to her child …

Doctor Who continues with “Lucky Day ” on Saturday May 3 on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK and on Disney + around the world.
