Anime has since become one of the top sources for animation, despite not being Netflix’s top priority. In fact, Netflix is responsible for 38 % of the entire anime streaming income generated worldwide in 2023. For the streaming service’s potential, Netflix has a lot of potential, with viewers actually coming to the site for animation. This has resulted in more efforts being made to obtain and deliver some of the medium’s most talked-about line, including Dandadan, Pluto, JoJo, and Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, Ranma 1/2, and of course SAKAMOTO DAYS, one of 2025’s biggest animation visits and the newest Shinen experience.

SAKAMOTO DAYS, adapted from Yuto Suzuki&#8217, s comic of the same brand, presents an interesting killer outfit narrative that &#8217, s unlike anything else. When his home is targeted by Tokyo’s legal underground, Taro Sakamoto, a respected hunter from his children who has since retired, let himself go, and embraced a home life with his wife, finds himself drawn back into the game. X, a phantom and hedonistic serial killer who may have relationships to Sakamoto&#8217, s terrible past, is at the core of this conflict. SAKAMOTO DAYS seems comfortable, but right from the start, it’s clear that this is far more than shots and bloodshed. &nbsp,

” There are these halfhearted moments of true heartfelt joy and compassion that you don&#8217, t usually see in this kind of genre”, Matthew Mercer, Taro Sakamoto’s words professional, says. It “kind of undermines its own narrative in inventive methods and presents a very, very different viewing experience for this kind of tale.”

Matthew Mercer, one of the most well-known voice players in the industry, won the 2017&#8217 Voice Actor of the Year prize at the Behind the Voice Actors Awards and recreated lots of figures throughout his more than 25 years in the industry. These include JoJo&#8217, s Bizarre Adventure&#8217, s Jotaro Kujo, Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan, and other memorable music culture figures like Resident Evil&#8217, s Leon S. Kennedy, The Legend of Zelda&#8217, s Ganondorf, and yet Luke Skywalker. Despite having an outstanding resume, Taro Sakamoto also excels under Mercer. It’s interesting because I’ve been grateful to have played a range of figures, many of whom have their individual levels of violence and intensity. Mercer says,” There are a lot of very delicate flavor and sections to him that I don&#8217, t usually get to play with in a figure of this sort of archetype”.

One of the most intriguing features of SAKAMOTO DAYS is that it functions as a narrative that comes to an end like John Wick or Kill Bill. Sakamoto has already had his happy end and turned his back on a life of crime, only to find that his former self-imposed intensity bites again. &nbsp,

Vinnie Hacker taps into X with chilling bravado, but he&#8217, who is best known as a TikTok influencer and model, is not. Hacker is new to voice acting, but his passion for anime runs deep and has been present since his childhood. &nbsp,

I’ve been a fan of anime since I can remember, starting with Dragon Ball and” Hacker says” when I was about six years old. It’s still one of my favorite series of all time. Even when I was a child, I had a passion for that. Hacker can’t help but feel happy and enthralled that he is a part of this series and that SAKAMOTO DAYS will inspire a whole new generation of anime fans, just like he did when he was a child. Being in it now and actually having the opportunity to be one of those people is a very exciting moment for me. I’m hoping to see more anime in the near future.

Although audiences are only getting started with Hacker as a voice actor, he is honored to play one of anime’s most notorious antagonists, X.” I knew a little bit about him beforehand,” Hacker discloses”. But for me, going into his details was something that was a little out of the ordinary. ” &nbsp,

Hacker is excited for audiences to finally see his character’s twisted plan go into action. In contrast to the serial killers from Dexter and the popular anime series Monster, he acknowledges that the villain’s darkness is a welcome change of pace for him. For me, it was something that was incredibly different. I kind of see myself as more of a happy and eccentric person. So it’s definitely interesting to play someone who was so cold like that.

Hacker has grown up being a significant member of the SAKAMOTO DAYS family, but he was already a big fan of X and SAKAMOTO DAYS as a whole before he was cast in the Netflix streaming success. I actually started the manga before I even knew that I was going to play the character, “he says”. I believe it helped me because I can sort of anticipate what will occur and how that will lead to that. It’s kind of like entering that person.

Hacker is enthusiastic about this deeper look into X, but he also can’t help but admire the creativity behind his assassin’s target”. He says in reference to Sakamoto’s duality and family-first mentality, which I find to be very intriguing. You don’t see it much, especially in a situation like this.

Sakamoto’s devotion to his family allows SAKAMOTO DAYS to vacillate between soft sincerity and cutthroat carnage, albeit in a manner that’s incredibly subtle and natural. Even when Sakamoto is at opposite ends of the emotional spectrum, these always seem like two sides of the same coin. This tightrope act succeeds because Mercer makes sure to find a balance between Sakamoto’s two extremes so they don’t sound like two completely different characters. Not judging a book by its cover, this warm interpretation of Sakamoto reinforces one of the anime’s central themes. SAKAMOTO DAYS and its cast are full of surprises, right down to Taro Sakamoto’s atypical character design. It appears as though SAKAMOTO DAYS intentionally steers clear of the stereotypical young, sleek badass in order to remind viewers that heroes come in a variety of shapes and sizes. You get a little older, you get softer, but you still pose the same threat, says Mercer.

To this point, the characters ‘ duality and depth are also reflected through how SAKAMOTO DAYS balances white-knuckle action with broad slapstick comedy. Because it’s as hilarious as it is suspenseful, one of the reasons why audiences have so openly embraced SAKAMOTO DAYS. &nbsp,

SAKAMOTO DAYS has built an excellent foundation for its heightened world throughout its first 11 episodes, and now the season’s long-awaited part two guarantees deeper character development as the Death Row Prisoners Arc continues. The numerous friends that Sakamoto lets into his life and how they gradually begin to change him are an ongoing effect of Mercer’s tease. More friends, after all, also mean more liabilities and people to target in an anime like SAKAMOTO DAYS.
